General Description:
The IPC485 is a high speed microprocessor controlled, ISA compatible serial card for automatic RS485 (2-wire, half duplex) communications, with isolated protection. The isolation and protection on the board is provided through the use of automatically resetable fuses on the communication lines, optical isolaters and transformers. Jumpers let you easily assign the UART its communication port, interrupt, baud rate, word length and addressing. Additional jumpers bypass the fuses, set line bias, termination and direction control options.
The board has independent RX and TX, activity indicator LED's plus edge mounted LED's for external viewing. The RS485 line can be connected through either the RJ12 6-wire phone type connector or the removeable screw connector, that will accept wires from 18 to 28 guage. Main power for the board is acquired from the computers buss. Available com port settings are COM1 through COM8. The interupt request can be set at IRQ 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, or none. Baud rates can be set to fully automatic or 300 to 115.2K at 5 to 8 data bits. Port addressing can be set or left at their default settings.
